WOW! Employees don't have to sell pork or alchohol, if it violates their religion, and customers are told to take their items to a different register for service? That's the MOST RIDICULOUS thing I have heard of in a LONG time.

Quote:
Major U.K. retailer Marks and Spencer has apologized after a company policy that allowed Muslim employees to refuse to serve customers buying pork or alcohol triggered a furious backlash.
The policy was first reported by the Daily Telegraph after an incident where a customer in central London buying a bottle of champagne was told to use another cash register due to the religion of the sales assistant.
“I had one bottle of champagne, and the lady, who was wearing a headscarf, was very apologetic but said she could not serve me,” the anonymous customer told the Daily Telegraph. “She told me to wait until another member of staff was available.”

Is it much different than not wanting to bake a cake for a gay couple due to religious reasons?

I can only imagine what would happen if the gay couple went to a Muslim bakery!

You are completely allowed to discriminate if you are a Muslim.

They aren't discriminating against you, but what you bought.

In this instance you are what you eat.

If they were discriminating against a person, they would refuse them service regardless of what they eat because of who they are as in the case of a gay couples wedding cake. In this instance, they only do not serve you if you have certain items, regardless of who you otherwise are. Why is it a bad thing to recognize your employees beliefs and work around them? Would you be complaining if Christian employees didn't have to sell Plan B?

I think that is nonsense.

That is like saying the cake bakers refusing to sell gay marriage wedding cakes to gays aren't discriminating against gays just their actions of gay marriage and gay sex.

You choose to work at a store that sells alcohol as a cashier and then choose to not sell it to them? You are openly saying that alcohol is sinful and I don't respect your religion which says it is fine. Islam says you cannot consume alcohol.
