Serious bike riders are some of the most self righteous pr****s on the road as it is. They insist on taking up entire lanes of traffic when it suits them but think nothing of taking to the sidewalk if traffic blocks up. If they decide to split lanes they think nothing of taking out your mirrors but if you bump them it's the end of the world. They believe themselves above traffic laws, run through stop signs, have no respect for pedestrians, and then they feel that since they aren't contributing to smog that we should worship them.

And, it wouldn't surprise me if there wasn't some requirement for bicycle registration. Many cities do require it, but since it doesn't apply to the smug self righteous, it doesn't get enforced.
But it was the city that pushed for it. They wanted to be like some other city in some other state.

Canoes are next. Other states have required, 'registration' to raise cash under the pretext of safety.

Don't know why a tax isn't placed on crime. Get convicted pay a tax aside form the 'fine'. that would be a winner. Exept all dedicated taxes end up in the general fund, another name for the official excuse, 'I don't know where the money went'.

If Chicago went after corruption and waste they could forego a tax.

any tax approved must have an expiration date.

Here in New Hampshire canoes have been taxed for decades. So are restaurant meals, hospital meals, gasoline, vehicle registrations, private property and a myriad of other taxes that effect the working class far more then the owners.

My problem is simple. Without a progressive tax on the monopolists, cheats, thieves and bastards actually running the real economy and politics there can never be "Liberty and Justice for All" only liberty for the owners and economic and political slavery for the rest.

Why do we need a progressive tax on anyone. Who is paying the taxes, who is doing the spending

News from The Associated Press

But, you know Democrat politicians -- they get the heebie jeebies if they can't tax something. So, let's give Rahm and the other city officials some ideas on things they can tax.
Bikes should be taxed (registered) the same as cars. If you're going to operate them, and expect to be treated as a vehicle, expect to be held to the same standards and start paying your way. Similarly, if they are going to be operated on public streets, they should be required to have insurance, same as any other vehicle.
