Everyone should pay the same percentage on income, and any asset tax like property tax, capital gains, etc should be equal as well.

Done.

As a FYI-Im in the top quintile for income, so by suggesting a higher tax rate *I* am putting my money on it. YOUR suggestion is that *I* should pay money that others who (like me) are fortunate enough to be making good money in our country while they do not is foolish. This argument works a lot better on those who are poor I think, but hey maybe you think it sounds good.

And one person paying an extra 10K or so wont make much of a difference. All of us who are fortunate enough to make the kind of money I make (or more) need to pay in to make a difference.
Excuses, excuses, and excuses.

You should lead by example. Pay the high percentage you believe everybody should pay and encourage others to do the same.

So...yeah seems a little unfair, it should be higher to slow down the massive accumulation of wealth that threatens to turn us into a plutocracy as money is moving more and more into politics each year....
Life is inherently unfair. Get over it.

Fortune has nothing to do with my income. Sustained effort in at work and school is why I make a good salary, and fortune has nothing to do with it. I am not lucky to have my job, I earned it.

That you feel lucky, thus guilty, about your compensation does not give you the right to figure I got lucky too, thus must be part of your absolution scheme. Absolve your class warfare guilt on your own dime, no need to demand tribute from me too.

Sigh can't resist.

Thats a touching response by you. Seriously. We have a 16 trillion deficit, I'll just write a check. Thats just so helpful. And if I did lead by example? Would you match it? Would suddenly all the people in my tax bracket go "hey thats pretty cool, how about I do that to?"

No. And you know it. this is just blathering on your part thinking "wow I got a great one liner here!"

You haven't responded to me either. If you're unwilling to pay for our government that is elected by the majority and makes decisions for us, are you willing to move out of the country?

Well? When are you moving?

Precisely.

Historically, the more taxes you pay is just to fund some type of socialism.

So hey, a 75% tax on the wealthy should just be responded with "Life is inherently unfair. Get over it."

You're right!

Seriously don't any of you have arguments based on logic? Or is it all talking points, and ad hominim attacks?

The logic is, you can take all the money from the rich and you will still complain its not enough.

You want to make things "fair".

There is no fairness in capitalism, yet there is no other system out there that is better. Legislating "fairness" destroys businesses and creates job loss.

There are many cuts needed to our current budget. There is no magical number or percentage to get that done. There's way too many variables involved.
Typical liberal answer, more taxes, when the real answer is for the government to stop unnecessary spending.

Actually most of us believe that a combination of spending cuts and tax increases are appropriate. We're not big fans of social cuts, but cut defense, increase some taxes, and balance it all out.

For example-I have yet to meet anyone on the left or right that like the TSA, most also feel that DHS is a duplicate of things the CIA and FBI do. Shrug. I could go on.
