They get it from Fox "News" and its contributors, the resource for racists, lazy thinkers, disgruntled old white guys who think brown folk are ruining "their country" - the "news source" for those who know nothing and wear the fact as a badge of honor (just listen to 'em).
Yeah, Detroit is getting better, but these types want to see the city destroyed in order to mitigate their sense of self-satisfaction.
The worst times were about 20 years ago, back when Nancy Kerrigan got whacked and the perpetrators thought they could blame it on Detroit crime - and boy, how the right wing gleefully jumped on this at the time. Since then there has been a wake-up, slow at first, but now gaining speed.
People are realizing that the auto industry and manufacturing can no longer be relied upon, but global expansion and outsourcing by "their own" seems to have caught them by surprise. Well, that's non-progressive government thinking.
Despite what the Fox trolls say, black folk did not chase jobs away. RW media and inheritance-baby republicans, like Romney and the Kochs, want people to believe that welfare, food stamps, unemployment benefits, are cushy lifestyles to be sought after by "slackers" (pretty sure this attitude is projection on their part).

Welfare programs are a result, not a cause.
Another thing about welfare programs - 100% of benefits are cycled back into the economy, not offshored into tax dodges.
