They are lying about it. The unemployment rate is being manipulated to make it look better than it is. Check out the labor participation rate, it is at a historic low. This is a very difficult time to get a job. I am a rare Republican (along with Dean Heller R-Nevada) who favors extending unemployment benefits.Obama is right about this one and I rarely ever say that.
Just like they did right before the election. They want to manipulate the unemployment numbers to fit their political agenda then they need to accept the results of telling the American people that Obama saved the day.

You mind actually showing how they manipulated the unemployment numbers ???
The evidence is right in front of you....in fact, it surround us.
Notice the numerous vacant store fronts.
Talk to business owners.....they know what's going on. Overall, they are extremely concerned about the state of the economy, with very few exceptions.
The talking point that the economy is improving is BS. Hence the call for unemployment extensions. Hence the growing number of people in poverty. Hence the number of people on food assistance.
This was all created by government....of both stripes.
Because the unemployment number should be the % who want to work but can't find employment. Mixing in those who have no desire to work would distort the figure.
