every other day, we see the Pope doing something unselfish and not making marginalizing of gays his #1 priority. Even the smallest tidbits of info are meant to induce a chuckle. Last night, the nightly news in San Antonio reported that pope made an impromptu phone call to an order of nuns in Spain who were not there to answer the phone. It seems to me that this is not REALLY news, but a systematic public relations machine to make the pope look like a progressive, benign old compassionate soul.

How does your example from San Antonio fit your claim?

I like the time when the news media put that kid up on stage with the Pope to make it look like the kid liked the Pope...genius marketing.

Yes, it seems like that is what's going on. The media views him as the first ultra-liberal pope so they are promoting him -- I see something practically every day on television about him.

Well, because as I said- It's not really news!
More examples are that he cleaned some dirty poor people feet, eschews the luxury of a papal suite, etc. yet there hasn't been ANY significant policy changes with what the church does that would make it more progressive.

Yes. That seems contrived. Extra points that the kid was black.

So the only way to be more likable and a better person is by being more Liberal and progressive?

I wouldn't want to point that out if I was a conservative, but it is your choice I guess.
