William F. Buckley, among others, advocated legalizing drugs because it seems a hopeless job – we’ve spent billions (trillions?) corrupted entire countries, enriched gangsters and, maybe, interdicted 10% of the supply. Legalize it, tax it, give up.
Had to reply to this one because I find it interesting that it implies that people don't try drugs simply because they are illegal. I, for one, would never try any of those hard drugs because I'm terrified of them, mainly that 1. I would love the feeling and immediately become addicted , or 2. I would have some horrible reaction, either physically or mentally, or both for that matter.
That having been said, when I hear people describe the feeling of heroin, I always think it sounds pretty great. Which is exactly why I'd never try it.
That's my feeling too. I've tried acid, shrooms & I smoke pot often but I would never try coke, heroin, meth, etc because I know myself. I'd become addicted & end up dead. I could've tried coke years ago with some friends, they were doing it right in front of me. I didn't care that they were, they offered me some & I said no. So regardless if it became legal, I still wouldn't try that or the other drugs.

I've been smoking pot for about 27 years & I'm still ticking. Thank you for your concern!
