The linked review is largely dismissive of the claim.
It is interesting, although not surprising, to note that both Chua (who is an American of Chinese heritage) and her husband (who is Jewish) belong to one of the "superior" demographic groups. At any rate, the book will undoubtedly make a lot of money for this uber-couple and their genetically-blessed daughters.
The ethic group claim is nonsense, but I have to say some religious beliefs or philosophical frameworks are definitely superior to others. Let's face it; some religions do nothing to further, and in fact are actively working against, any advancements in human happiness, contentment, or spiritual or intellectual growth.
I am surprised someone so superior doesn't know about self selection bias and immigration. As to Nigerians, I think that is particularly funny because Nigeria is often the butt of jokes among West Africans, particularly Ghanaians about how corrupt and unstable it is relative to their country Ghana.
One thing is certain, the "Tiger Mom" sure does have a superiority complex. There have been studies that have shown the correlation between the belief in inherent superiority and performance.
Based on that article, they're missing three key ingredients that help determine success. Generally speaking, all of those groups are probably above average when it comes to: urbanity(Mormons are to a lesser extent), emphasis on educational achievement, and stable upbringings. Whenever there is a norm, in this case vanilla White Americans, there will always be outliers in both directions.
why are white conservative males obsessed with superiority studies.
The author is an American woman of Chinese descent so...huh?
