People used to be proud to be considered Republicans. Now, not so much. Agreed?

Independents are moderates and sick of the 2 party system. I think we all are. I would love to see an Independent win the presidency. That would send a powerful message to both Democrats and Republicans.

Futile. It is a two-party system and without fundamental reform it will remain as such. I'm not going to vote for a third party and risk the Republicans winning an election. After 1992, Republicans are not going to vote independent and risk a Democrat winning an election. People can call themselves whatever they want, but at the end of the day, they know how they are going to vote. It is neither good nor evil, it is just the system that we have.

I'd much rather be a Republican than a Democrat.

Your status update, "FOX NEWS RULES!" makes clear why you would have such a ridiculous preference.

No

you are equating ideology to party and they are not one in the same, being an independent does not make one a moderate, it simply means they are not registered with a political party.

Conservatives Remain the Largest Ideological Group in U.S.

41% of Independents call themselves moderates

35% call themselves Conservatives

and

20% call themselves liberals.

President Exit Polls - Election 2012 - NYTimes.com

break that down to election terms. Only 29% of the population identifies as independent which means only 11%of the entire country calls themselves both independent and moderate.

But to your point, Moderates make up 41% of the vote over all,

That's how much power the two deeply-corrupt and incompetent parties still hold on this country.

The Democrats and Republicans have a monopoly on the two party system. They control the radio, T.V. ads, and misinformation supported by MSM. If we want a third party candidate, call it independent or Libertarian, we are going to have to put in triple or quadruple the effort to get the word out there.

The fact is that the Democratic Party will continue to grow exponentially. Their voter base has figured out by voting (D) they can give themselves benefits. To counteract this would require a movement of massive proportions or a collapse in our system.

The rise of Independents is the reason why neither political party represents the middle class.

It's not a positive development for anyone but the top 10 percent and the bottom 20 percent.

I would put it slightly differently, though I think we fundamentally agree.

The rise of Independents is as a result of neither political party representing the middle class. Both Republicans and Democrats have abandoned average Americans, so only the wealthy corporate elite, misfits, and bottom feeders have a voice in the traditional two parties.
