Diffuse flames burn far cooler.

Yes, they can't cruise at sea level, but that doesn't matter when they are about to crash. The terrorists knew the planes couldn't gain altitude when they were going that fast at such a low elevation. But they didn't want the planes to safely gain altitude; they wanted them to crash.

It's also a coincidence that the Port Authority had just lost a billion dollar lawsuit against the insurance company, meaning they'd have to pay untold billions in asbestos removal. Luckily, Silverstein signs the lease, and takes out an insurance policy covering "total destruction" of the complex the day before 9/11, and makes off with a cool $4.5 billion.
Another fact I never see get mentioned is there were hundreds of thousands of American Airlines puts the day before (meaning someone was betting on the stock plummeting) 9/11. The SEC has confirmed it was a domestic trader, but the records beyond that are sealed.
Amazing how all the evidence that could supposedly cement the government's case was all confiscated and hidden/lost/destroyed.
