Unfortunately, I don't think the NSA would've stopped 9/11. I say this because President Bush was warned during his daily briefings several times about Bin Laden's plans to attack the U.S.
There's no real point over this sort of contrafactualt

Now we have 4 NSA whistleblowers with 144 years of Senior experience that say not only did the NSA receive information prior to 9/11 but chose to sit on it.

“The sadder reality, Mr. President, is that NSA itself had enough information to prevent 9/11, but chose to sit on it rather than share it with the FBI or CIA. We know; we were there. We were witness to the many bureaucratic indignities that made NSA at least as culpable for pre-9/11 failures as are other U.S. intelligence agencies.”

http://rt.com/usa/nsa-obama-whistleblowers-letter-337/

“In short, when confronted with the prospect of fessing up, NSA chose instead to obstruct the 9/11 congressional investigation, play dumb, and keep the truth buried, including the fact that it knew about all inbound and outbound calls to the safe house switchboard in Yemen. NSA’s senior leaders took me off the task because they realized – belatedly, for some reason – that I would not take part in covering up the truth about how much NSA knew but did not share.”

Stop making excuses people. We had the proper mechanisms in place to stop 9/11 but there was opportunity in letting it happen.

What were the losses to the U.S., or its Government, from the 9-11 demolitions; minus the few dead people, the justification for a middle east invasion, and the Patriot act?

Justification for an on-going war. The War on "terror" is a lot like the war on "drugs"-just another way for bureaucracy to grow and grow and grow with no identified enemy or timeline.

The Patriot Act was written prior to 9/11 and rightfully rejected. Mass fear and hysteria provides opportunity for Governments to enact laws that would never be considered otherwise. The Shock Doctrine by Naomi Klein is an excellent book that details how Governments, including our own, abuse this practice.

Why couldn't the Bush family just ask the Bin Ladin family what their little Osama was up to lately? They had lots of opportunity while hosting them on numerous occasions to discuss oil business and other like graft.

Ties Between the Bush Family and Osama bin Laden

Georgie Porgie was in fact beholden to the Bin Laden family for past favours.

Perhaps 'his failure to launch' on intelligence given him about Osama was motivated by some stupid feelings of indebtedness?

Just ask'n.
