I just read the (Examiner) article and they, ahem, don't bother to mention that the premiums for Walmart are heavily subsidized and the premiums for ACA aren't.
WHOWOULDATHOUGHT!?
[at least the Examiner remains consistent in its Fox-like "reporting"...]
"the premiums for ACA aren't." What world have YOU been living in?
MAYBE it is YOU who should think BEFORE making claims that can so easily proved to be lies!

Beginning in 2014, enormous insurance premium subsidies and payment supports will be available under the Affordable Care Act (ACA) to millions of lower-income individuals and families."
ACA is the only health insurance were you can never ever be dropped. Go with any another health insurance and get really sick they will dropped the second they find out how sick you are
Are you seriously that uninformed, or was it a deliberate lie?
If they're not subsidized, then explain the purpose of the healthcare.gov website, and what all the problems with it during its first few months were about.
Oh, and just a little, tiny fact that has a HUGE impact on your position - Wal*Mart subsidizes the policies it offers, while TAXPAYERS subsidize the O'care policies. There's just a teensie weensie little difference there.
You should really consider reading the article if you're going to make a comment on it.
The subsidies for the Wal*Mart plans are VOLUNTARILY being paid with PRIVATE money, while TAXPAYERS are picking up the subsidies for the ACA plans. YOU and I are paying for the ACA subsidies, while we are NOT paying for the Wal*Mart subsidies.
This is essentially why this shouldn't even be a surprise and anyone who thinks that this article shows that ACA is more expensive is not a smart person. ACA is expensive because taxpayers are not subsidizing as much as Walmart is.
Walmart's current insurance is ACA compliant and substantially better than what was offered pre ACA. This is true for most employers who have historically provided acces to large group healthcare insurance.
Some employers allow employees with a minimum of 20 hours a week to acquire subsidized insurance and others adhere to 30 hours. Many employers do not subsidize part time employees at the same rate as they do full timers.
I have no idea the percentage of Walmart employees who are part timers. In my neck of the woods non management retail employees trend part time as they always have. Walmart has a huge corporate infrastructure that trends full time.
And what does this have to do with my comment?
There are tons of postings on here that do nothing but rag on Wal-Mart, claiming all sorts of lies including but not limited to, employees get NO benefits or very limited benefits.
Yes, the ACA policies ARE subsidized. But the author of the OP's article compared Walmart's heavily subsidized policies with the UNSUBSIDIZED cost of ACA policies. Direct quote from the article:
"A Journal of the American Medical Association analysis from September showed that unsubsidized Obamacare enrollees will face monthly premiums that are five to nine times higher than Walmart premiums."
I know the unsubsidized cost of the policy I obtained under the ACA would have been more than five times higher than it became once my subsidy was calculated in. The article is disingenuous to say the least.
WRONG..
Even if you are lucky enough to qualify for the subsidies, those subsidies are paid for by THE TAXPAYER, and paying taxes, and getting a subsidy, doesnt mean the cost doesnt exist..

ACA does not allow any policy to discriminate against pre-existing conditions nor put an annual or lifetime cap on claims. Also , policy holders have an annual out of pocket cap that includes the deductible.
80 % of people with healthcare insurance were a part of their employers' plan. The quality or lack thereof of any pre ACA plan was highly variable. Many of the plans offered pre ACA were worthless especially in the food services and retail sectors. Employers got to fake that they were offering something of value to employees who tended to perceive all insurance was alike. What they did not know did not hurt them, unless they got sick or were involved in a serious accident.

The reason for the healthcare.gov website is to see if you QUALIFY for a subsidy, but even if you do, they are paid for BY THE TAXPAYER..
Changing who pays for it, doesnt mean it doesnt exist.

Inaccurate. Fail to pay your insurance and in 90 days you will have no insurance. ACA or not
