So you don't remember when Bush and Rumsfeld fired Shinseki for telling the truth about how many troops would be needed in Iraq?

You are correct. Even if one disagrees with Obama relieving Generals in Afghanistan, it is call to make. In the military you can not afford to have dissension in the ranks. A general should know this and respectfully step down.
Those who you listed deserved to get the boot.

Oh snap! And Lincoln and FDR fired more than Bush or Obama, with a much smaller military.

The real question that needs asked is why do we have so many incompetent idiots in command positions?

Strachan is currently a member of the United Kingdom's Chief of Defence Staff's Strategic Advisory Panel and claims that the 'crazy' mismanagement of the Syrian crisis at the end of the summer was the worst example of the military planning in evidence since 9/11 and that at least President George W. Bush had a plan and stuck to it.

If anything it’s gone backwards instead of forwards, Obama seems to be almost chronically incapable of doing this,' said Strachan.
Bush may have had totally fanciful political objectives in terms of trying to fight a global War on Terror, which was inherently astrategic, but at least he had a clear sense of what he wanted to do in the world. Obama has no sense of what he wants to do in the world,' he said according to the Daily Beast.

Even worse still, Strachan believes that Western indecision over whether or not to launch limited action against President Bashar al-Assad strengthened the Syrian leader and undermined the United States' power and reputation.

The book examines what Strachan sees as the failure of politicians to use history and strategy to predict the implications of present or future military actions.
Strachan, who is Oxford University's Professor of the History of War claims that politicians and the public have become used to quick-fix wars that are essentially an extension of policy.

Strachan does not keep his criticisms solely to President Obama.............Read more: Obama is 'chronically incapable' of military strategy and 'clueless about what he wants to do in the world' according to top UK defense advisor | Mail Online

Because we have a bloated military. Those that don't leave the service and get on with civilian life get promoted. Many are truly called, but other's are just along for the ride.

I agree with you.
The Obama Administration flinched and dropped the ball early on in the Syrian civil war. Talking big and doing nothing didn't help either.
Early on it was the Syrian secular people in revolt against Assad. With public statements we encouraged them but provided very minimal support.
Other interests who had a stake in the region such as Russia, Iran and Radical Islam have stepped in the vacuum left by American policy.
There is a principle of policy at work though.
Do we as a nation want to get embroiled in another mid east fight or do we let our allies in the region carry the water while we support them? This could be the Sunni Arab's fight to win or lose. We are allies with the Sunni but currently negotiating with the top Shiite. That should tell you something about American involvement.
After all, being less engaged in the middle east is a bipartisan agenda from far right to far left and in between.

Pretty much way off topic though.
I don't think you guy's will have any luck selling the "Great Obama Military Purge" to the general blogosphere and be taken seriously.

For the same reason we have so many incompetent civilian leaders. If you are in the in club you go to the top. It happens less in the military than in the civilian world.
I mean really Dan Quale, Gerald Ford, Joe Biden, Al Gore, Harry Reid, Boxer, Palin,Cruz I can go on forever. None of these people would have won an election if they were not first part of the in club.
Someone pointed out that Lincoln fired a lot of generals. He certainly did, and those generals were deserving of being fired.
FDR was quick to fire generals or have them reassigned often for the personal reasons.
Obama is no different and like those before him well within his rights as Commander and Chief to do so.
