Yet I'm told on this board there is no such thing as African-American culture. This is all too perplexing. The woman is a bigot.

First lady bemoans culture of African Americans aspiring to be 'a baller or a rapper' - POLITICO.com

Quote:
"Today, instead of walking miles every day to school, they’re sitting on couches for hours, playing video games, watching TV. Instead of dreaming of being a teacher or a lawyer or a business leader, they’re fantasizing about being a baller or a rapper," Obama continued. "Right now, one in three African American students are dropping out of high school, only one in five African Americans between the ages of 25 and 29 has gotten a college degree."

But priorities should change, she said, because "getting an education is as important if not more important than it was back when this university was founded."

Turn against the culture of triviality that celebrates celebrity, Obama told graduates, and "reject the slander that a black child with a book is trying to act white."

The graduates' parents' "sacrifice is your legacy," she said as she closed her brief speech. It's "up to all of you to guide our young people toward a better future."

I must admit I have no clue what a "baller" is.

And I don't wish to know.

What's with the hyperbole?

People have been saying this same stuff for as long as i can remember.

What's with all the "racist" and "bigot" nonsense?

About the only thing she's ever said of any relevance and merit.

Even when Bill Cosby said it, i didn't see a big deal. Again, a million people had been saying it for years LONG before Cosby ever said it publicly.

No one is saying anything new.

So what? Michelle Obama is not saying anything that MOST African Americans haven't already said.

BS. I have said similar things on this board only to be told African-American culture doesn't exist and kids being denounced as acting White doesn't occur. Sometimes by you.
