No, a legally recognized marriage is not the as single men and women have now.

Did you even research your topic before you posted this?

In the case of medical treatment or illness, he/or she in the single man/woman relationship is not considered the next of kin and have absolutely no say in such matters.

When you die, your social security benefits only go to your wife, husband and/or child. A single man/woman relationship does not allow for these benefits to be paid to anyone.

There is health insurance and filing taxes and a bunch of other things to consider.

So, no, they are not the same.

So polygyny was for the rich, and polyandry was (and still is) for the poor.
This was the same with the Native Americans before the Europeans that invaded and forced their ways upon them. Wives were property and negotiable in trade. Native Americans practiced polygamy, polyandry and same sex unions and all were adamantly discouraged by the whites using their religious and moral objections. Polyandry in the native Americans was about power, for women were also leaders and warriors, not just the men. Sex was just another fact of life for them and sharing ones spouse was no big deal and was often used to seal negotiations. But of course many of them were part of a hunter/gatherer society and I doubt that there are many still trying to honestly live that way today.

"A legal recoginized marraige the same as a single man and women can now have." What that means to me is that a single man and single woman can enter into a legal marriage. No one else can legally until recently where some states are allowing same sex marraiges. I feel that if you are going to go beyond a man and a woman that a poly marraige should also be allowed. Why not give them the legal advantages as couples can have?
