Slavery was practiced around the globe and only in the West was it ended unilaterally. Only in America was a civil war fought over slavery where the overwhelming majority of those killed were not slaves or slave owners.
As for eugenics, meh. It was practiced in Europe and frankly rudimentary forms of it has gone on forever. My mother told me when she was coming up a deformed baby would be left to die in the elements.
Indians are the most racist group of people I know of. They are racist in Ghana where they are a very small minority in a black country so it is logical that they show their true colors in their own country. Needless to say I won't be visiting.
The American media hasn't covered this but they rarely cover African news pieces unless gays or natural resources are involved. It's African media outlets that should be covering this more closely......

Not particularly unusual in any country where "country" is defined by an ethnicity or tribe or other inherited distinctions. The US is one of very few countries where there is no "founding ethnicity" or race or tribe or bloodline.
the sad thing about this is that india is actually poorer than many african countries!!!
