What exactly do you think it costs for Michelle Obama to stay with Oprah on Maui? Are you under the impression that they hire new secret service agents specifically for vacations or something? This is ridiculous.
The secret service protects the first family.
Did it bother you when Laura Bush and/ or their daughters travelled and were protected by the secret service?
Does it bother you that the secret service continues to protect former first fams at home and when they travel?

My real issue is the assumption by politicians that they got it like that and can use government employees and assets for personal or private uses. We wouldn't , or at least shouldn't tolerate a local mayor behaving that way. Why would we or should we tolerate any other elected official doing those things?

It doesn't matter. The costs are the same regardless of whether they are used for state functions, private functions, or not at all.

2) The mission of the secret service is to provide security to the President, his family, and certain other members of our government. They are never "private persons" regardless of what they doing at any particular moment. Politicians have no choice regarding who they use for their security and who they do not. The roles and responsibility of the Secret Service... hell, even their existence... are determined by Congress and established as law.

I honestly and completely don't care what you believe. I am sick of politicians squandering tax dollars on things that absolutely do not benefit we the people. I am sick of the excuse that it is only a drop in the bucket. Our elected reps are not royalty nor is the United States a monarchy.
If Obama's want to throw a grand party then go for it, but foot the bill themselves. They are after all millionaires. I wonder how lavish the party would be if they did have to foot the bill like everyone else. How many vacations would they take if if they had to pay the entire bill like everyone else?
It's not only the Obama's it is any politician that believes that tax dollars= their dollars.
It's government agencies throwing themselves parties paid for by we the people. Yes it is only drops in the bucket, but the mind set extends to other things and it is exactly why we are 17 trillion in debt.
Finally if it is no big deal why did the white house impose secrecy rules? Why hide it?

We know he is not accountable for anything because he is not responsible for anything, we just want to press our collective noses against the steamed up window and look inside to see how the 1% live.
Otherwise we will begin to believe Obama is embarassed to show how he lives in a country where the wealth needs to be redistributed, the minimum wage raised and his promise of skyrocketing energy prices leave very little hard earned money to purchase a bronze obamacare plan. Obama does not want to give us the wrong idea that some are more equal than others under his new world order.

Your link did not specify who paid for the extras at the party. Additional security, party favors, entertainment etc.
And have the Secret Service guard his useless body in perpetuity because they think they are entitled.
