Two years and $200 million later and the website hasn't enrolled a single participant. Even liberal lawmakers have had enough:

Colossal cost of Cover Oregon prompts lawmaker to call for end to spending | KATU Investigators | KATU.com - Portland News, Sports, Traffic Weather and Breaking News - Portland, Oregon

Estimates are they need another $100 million to finish the job.

With the state's $60 billion budget that $100 million per year (to cover absolutely everyone in the state) comes to 0.0016 or 0.16% of the state's budget.

I think they'll manage.

That is really disappointing to hear they haven't gotten their website up and running yet. This site was meant to be a full service site going to go beyond any other state website. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be going well.

Though just to point out, people are enrolling in Oregon, but they are doing it the old fashion way. Just wanted to clarify the "not enrolling a single person" comment.

WTF is it with government and websites?

They are starting to make the DMV look like a well-oiled machine.

It is one of those things that I think would make more sense hiring a bunch of 22 year old tech nerds to build it for you and just giving them the money. At least it would run properly.

Oregon operates on a biennial budget. Your number is way off. They have been experiencing shortfalls lately, like nearly every other blue state, so this just adds to that problem.

The cost was to develop a website...

The website hasn't enrolled a single person - exactly as I posted.

That is correct, I was just adding to your comment, nothing more, nothing less.

I'm not sure what perspective is important other than they have spent $200 million on a website that doesn't work. They want another $100 million.

Think about it this way: At a cost of $100 per hour, that amounts to one million billable hours, or 500 employees working full time for a year. At $200 per hour it's 250 employed working full time (and billing the taxpayer) every year.

Obviously computer infrastructure is a component. High-end hardware could cost millions. But management is already a function of the government.

I recognize they aren't just developing a simple web page. It still boggles the mind that it could cost $300 million to build a web portal.
