I'd rather the government get out of the "marriage" business altogether, other than providing legal benefits to any two mentally able adults.
No reason to do so.
The government "inserts itself" (By regulating and enforcing) into a number of arrangements, such as "the corporation," business partnerships, limited liability companies... etc. Marriage is but one such arrangement.
"Marriage" is simply short form way that two individuals can contract with one another and gain instant access to all of the rights, responsibilities and benefits attendant with same.
Just as when two business people enter into a Limited Liability Company arrangement. There are restrictions on who can do that, and once done, it immediately creates automatic rights, responsibilities and benefits for that LLC until dissolved.
The "government should get out of the business of marriage" meme is stale and not compelling. How about "if you don't want to take advantage of marriage, don't get one." Just like how if you want to run your business as a sole proprietor or through informal partnership with another person, it's your prerogative. But the government should keep such business forms as the LLC and Corporation available to those who want to take advantage of it.

All heterosexuals that are non-married (and any homosexual or bisexual or trisexual if you like men, women, and trannies) can fill out an Advanced Directive. The VA asks me all the time to fill out one of these things.
Homosexuals do not need to be married to have their lover make decisions about their life if they go into a coma or something.
The purpose of pushing gay marriage has the same objective that NAMBLA would have pushing grown men marrying pre-pubescent boys: to change the morals of society, groom the minds of both adults and children, and make their addictive fetish normalized in society.

Why not be a man and stop using propaganda phrases to groom the minds of mentally weak adults (I'm certain your mind has been groomed), as NAMBLA supports "marriage equality" too for their perverted, immoral romances (and I'm sure romance can occur between a 45 year old man and 11 year old boy).
