Mall in Columbia on lockdown; police say three are dead - The Washington Post
Ever wonder why mall shootings were rare until the 24 hrs news cycle?

The media provides a detailed 'how to' guide for copycat shooters as all day coverage on a slow news day.

Unfortunately your proposed gun violence sticky will miss most of gun violence that goes on almost daily in cities like Newark, Nj that constitutes the greatest number of incidents and gets essentially zero coverage. With which the clamor to stop gun violence would be a whimper.

Why does the media cover a rare mall shooting and go silent on the violence which plagues Democratic controlled inner cities across the country on a daily basis? How would that look? Especuially since they have no effective solutions to address the core of the violence.

A mall shooting stirs the imagination and rouses the emotions while inner city crime is thought by news agencies to have little to no impact and be expected behavior. Anti gun proponents in the media and politics thrive on rare incidents of gun violence and do their best to make it seem more common than they are to stir anti gun sentiment. One might even shout 'racism' as practiced by the media and politicians as they gloss over the inner city crime and do absolutely nothing to protect the inner city residents they pretend to care about.

Average of 10 thousand people die every year from drunk drivers. Concerned about the reckless and wanton human carnage you might want to join MAD.

And I've already heard the nonsense responses.

"We need more common sense gun laws"

"We need more mall security"

The sad truth is that in a free country, you aren't safe.

I can support limiting magazine size, but that's just to keep the death toll down. But outlawing rifles or shotguns won't do anything. Assault weapons bans are just stupid. More security just means next time it's walmart.

Armed bystander's reaction in Ariz. shootings illustrates complexity of gun debate - The Denver Post

Ya gotta love this stuff:

"gun rights advocates say his quick action showed that a well armed and well trained person could protect himself and the public".

I kid you not; you cannot make this chit up. Joe Zamudio the so-called armed hero did neither. He damned near shot the man who subdued the shooter and took away his gun, an unarmed man by the by, but decided to leave the weapon in his pocket instead.

This hero then ran up and started to wrestle with the guy who had subdued the shooter until witnesses corrected him.

He's the hero and the unarmed guy who subdued the shooter gets nary a mention. You gun nuts are a silly bunch.

The only admittedly armed man in the crowd did absolutely nothing to either prevent or protect anyone but hey you gotta make your gun heros where you can ...right?

God never gave any one that right.
Some guy writing up the constitution thought it was a good idea for every one to have a gun, that was then , i wonder how he might have worded that concept if he knew how it would turn out 200 years later.

Oh wonderful; put this stupid chit on God's head.

God: "I decree that my chosen people, Amurikans, can arm themselves to the teeth so they can protect themselves from EACH OTHER". Yep; I read that during my bible classes.

I wonder why he'd think you needed a special endorsement.

And so the whacko knows that after his first few shots, he'll probably get a bullet from some unknown direction, and his dreams of lurid headlines for months after his own death, will be abruptly stopped.

And so even the whackos know that opening fire in a shopping mall won't accomplish what he wants... and so they are a lot less likely to try.

A rare COMPLETELY insane one might still try. But even then, he might kill one or two people, instead of dozens.

But many such murders simply won't happen in the first place.

Deterrence is the best reason for law-abiding citizens to be able to carry. Most still won't bother, but a few will. And the whackos won't knnow which ones they are, or where. It's enough to make most of the whackos change jobs.
You do realize there have been such shootings as this one in states where their are more relaxed gun laws right ? If the person is truly intent on doing something like this i seriously doubt they care about the consequences. After all look at all the mass shootings that happened in Colorado a state that is friendly towards gun owners. Also something I don't think many on here are thinking clearly about but gun laws that are made by the state mean nothing if the surrounding states have more relaxed gun laws. You can say go to virginia get a few guns or your friends can go each get 1 or 2 guns and TRAVEL to other states. The U.s. is not like europe where if you go a few hours down the highway you have to go through customs of that country. The U.S. is just one country and as such has what one considers "open borders" now what do you think would happen if the states that have stricter gun laws decided to create permanent checkpoints to check out the cars coming into the state and to confiscate the vehicles occupants weapons. Would this be better than to try to come up with FEDERAL laws that can reach the ENTIRE country?

Must be even nicer to have to defend your house with a broom stick while rioters are throwing firebombs at your house/apartment. Remember that?

Must also be nice to have the right to be a chalk outline on the ground after you get stabbed to death and desperately tried to dial 911 on your phone so that the police could investigate your dead body just a few minutes sooner.

Must also be nice to be the helpless victim of a hate crime if you live in a neighborhood that doesn't accept your lifestyle.

Must also be nice to give up your right to self preservation to a government that can help you help yourself because your incapable.

Must also be nice to be a liberal in the 1st world, where your right to be a liberal and say whatever stupid stuff you want is protected and defended by guns every day.
