Hello,

Have you ever known anyone who had a political affiliation that would not seem obvious by their "type", mannerisms, culture, views on other things, etc.

Here are two examples:

A. A uncle of mine who is in cultural style a very laid back 70 year old ex-hippie type. Hates organized religion, very socially liberal, everyone in his social circle is a left wing democrat, has many long time minority friends, reads many intellectual books, loves traveling to Africa, gay friendly, etc.

However, since he has made 5 million investing and has a 350,00 a year passive income business, is very anti taxes on the rich and politically, much to the chargin of his hard core activist wife who is famous in some local left wing circles, is a hard core Republican, into right wing free market views.

B. A lawyer friend of mine for a social services agency. Very free spirited open minded middle class Jewish woman who is socially liberal and does not like extremes of economic inequality. Has a long time best friend who is gay. Dislikes the religious right. However:

Because she is a pro-Israel hawk she will never ever ever vote for a Democrat for any office!. Like my uncle , everyone in her circle is a left wing democrat.

I guess my question is, has anyone ever known a person who based on their culture, mannerisms, views on other things, social circle you would expect them to have one political affiliation, but for some unusual reasons, they support the other party?

Hypothetical example: a white male, macho retired marine small business owner, right wing Christian fundamentalist, hunts for deer, married to a stay at home mom, lives in the south, that supported Obama and always votes Democrat

Thanks

Well it would make sense for someone pro-Israel to never vote for a democrat -- why would they? And why would someone who has worked hard to get ahead want the government confiscating most of it to redistribute to the lazy?

I think it's because everyone pretty much ends up selecting between the two parties except for some libertarians and other third party types.

The last example sounds like a fruit cake -- why would someone who owns a business and a gun and who is Christian support Obama? One of the oddest things I saw when Clinton was running was a car sitting outside a church with one bumper sticker that said "we vote pro-life" and another bumper sticker for Clinton. It was bizarre.

Yes because if your not making the top bucks your lazy. That explains it. Case closed.

Please think before you speak.

Why are alleged Christians so quick to ignore the teachings of Christ, one being "it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God"?

By definition, it's practically impossible for a right-wing Christian fundamentalist to be an Obama supporter in your last hypothetical. There are some ex-military, macho, deer-hunting small business owner types that have political views more in line with the Democrats, though.

How is it possible for a true Christian fundamentalist to be right-wing?

Haha, I won't get into that. There are plenty of liberals who are Christians though.

Yes, there are people who would seem to be conservatives or liberals, yet one issues turns then around.
