How exactly do you think we manage to have 100,000,000+ gun owners, 300,000,000+ guns, tens of BILLIONS of rounds fired every year and still have incidents like this be so rare that they're national news? Because the VAST majority of gun owners are responsible, far more so than liberals who run their mouths about things they know nothing about.
You aren't going to find any responsible gun owners who don't think this guy should be tossed in jail, unlike liberals who support their criminals gun owners have no problem with people who break the law going to jail.

If he had used a car they could have heard it coming and moved out of the way. If he had had anything except a gun he would have to have gotten close enough to use the weapon in their personal space, and quite possibly would have been stopped since there were two of them.

You are absolutely correct because only guns are used to murder in this country. There has never been a case of vehicular homicide. Never been murder by stabbing, never been murder by Bow and arrow, by crossbow, by baseball bat, by beer bottle, by burning bed, by poison, by tire iron. Only guns have been used.

And just how would you propose to do that? Background checks? We already have them. If he has no criminal history how would you know or why would you deny him his right to purchase a firearm? Nobody is going to justify his actions but you can't stop crime with senseless legislation. It just doesn't work. He used a bolt action hunting rifle. One of the most rarely used firearms by criminals. How can you prevent all intentional poisonings? How can you prevent any homicide if you have no indication that there is a potential?

Hopkins and his bother should have introduced themselves as the new property owners.
Are you seriously suggesting that they should have first knocked on the doors of all 5 surrounding properties... just in case? I also doubt that trespassing on the old coot's property and knocking on his door would have gone well.
