What....sigh.

OK read the article. No SERIOUSLY go back and read it.

The "head of the household" for the first time the majority of those are the working poor. Used to be we had a ton of older people getting it, now the poverty is spreading back into younger folks as well.

This is completely unrelated to who the food stamps are for-it could mean that even MORE children then ever are receiving them. In fact since its applying to more people that are of the age to have children its indicating the OPPOSITE of what you are implying.

The article itself says that. Able bodied working age people USED to work for a living, now the majority of food stamp recipients are not the elderly or very young.

Funny though how Obama even brought up in his speech last night the serious need for cheap foreign workers, obviously he doesn't believe Americans really want to work.

That article refers to the middle class as increasingly needing food stamps.

How could someone who needs food stamps be middle class??? They would have to be lower class to qualify for the poverty guidelines required to receive food stamps.

Or am I totally misunderstanding something here?

The article did not state that the people receiving the food stamps are or are not gainfully employed. In fact, it talked about rising unemployment, implying that the majority of recipients are unemployed.

The problem is two fold. Yes there are many people who are lazy and don't want to work but there just aren't as many decent jobs as there used to be.

Doi you realize that millions of working Americans are on food stamps because they make so little that they have no problem qualifying for the benefit? Many of our military enlisted ranks who have families have to go on food stamps because they are paid chump change that the GOP caucus feels is adequate
for someone who is willing fight and die for them!
