He could have been in a diabetic coma from not eating.
It's nice that the OP had dinner, though.

This poster who said the OP should have called 911 is not anyone's definition of a liberal, and few people would accuse me of being a bleeding heart. Why did you feel the need to bring this spin to it?

My wife and I go into a 7-11 Store in WDC and walk back to use the rest room. (Yes, a rare 7-11 with a restroom!) Blocking the path is a homeless man who passed out on the way to or from the restroom. His pants are down and his private parts are showing for everyone to see. He is sleeping, or dead, hard to tell.

Shocked, we went to the clerk and told him what we saw in the back of the store and he refused to do anything. He said, "Oh he is homeless, we have them passed out in the store all the time."

Hearing our appeal to the Clerk, a number of other customers walk back to the homeless man and stared. A few giggle and others are shocked to see his private parts visible for all to see. But no one did a thing.

So we went to dinner and returned to the 7-11 store an hour later to see what had happened. We found the sleeping homeless man still blocking the entrance of the restroom and still asleep with his private parts showing.

Should we have called the police because the clerk refused to do anything? Would the police even show up and would they require we give our name and stay there until they showed up? What is our responsibility as human beings when this takes place in a private business setting inside. What would you do?
Without realizing it you've provided us all with a great example of what the Bystander Effect means
good people like you who want to do the right thing but instead of being proactive you look to pass the buck of responsibility on to somebody else.

Without question you should have called the police.

Do you need permission from random strangers to do something immediately instead of waiting an hour then not doing anything?

Call the police and tell them that the man is passed out inside the store and the clerk refuses to do anything about it.

One could have bought a newspaper and covered the guys private parts . I would call 911 . I don't see homeless people , I believe the cops are more sypathetic . I hear the homeless are down by the railroad tracks and have certain places they hang out.

I will say in my area they usually treat everyone with respect. There was a homeless man on the rail road tracks and someone beat him up , put it on you tube . When it was found out the town gathered together to protect him , help him financially and get him sober..they tried to get him straightened out but to no avail.. he went back drinking .

You say you're retired so clearly you're no teenager. You really have to ask what you should have done?

If I were you I would have been embarrassed to post this.

I would have called but it depends on what "culture" you are in I guess. Different areas have different cultures. What is outrageous or unusual in one is perfectly normal in another.
