Myself and a lot my friends received degrees out of the business college at our universities.
But those are not worthless degrees for any generation. We will always need them. With your business degree do you know how to write and research and I mean really write as in a thesis or dissertation. Most who can write have no problem with that. Can you participate and keep up an intelligent conservation with someone who has majored in international relations with your business degree....doubtful. Your field is business, their field is the world....not worthless at all.

its hard to save your money for retirement when mamma is at the mall spending like a drunk sailor and junior is 35 and never worked at home is in his 12th year of college and needs that new car and for you to pay off that college loan you signed for and plus raising his out of wedlock baby. dont forget you got to pay pepe and maria to clean the yard and do the housework that junior and mama no longer do.

A degree in psychology most certainly needs to problem solve and involves critical thinking.

Kudos. More power to you. I hope it works out for you. That's much better for you and your family than waiting for the phone to ring.

More BS from the entitlement group. I raised 3 children and have been married to the same woman I dated in high school. I have well over a million dollars in my 401k account my wife has almost as much as me. We BOTH have pensions and we are BOTH "baby boomers." We are both, however, to young to retire at age 49. We will both retire soon, in 3-5 years. However, as of now, we cannot. But we have saved our butts off for our retirement; even raising 3 children.

All those who say you can't? I worked THREE jobs, whilst my wife stayed at home and raised our children. She went to work when our youngest was 10. We worked, yes I know weird in this day and age for someone to "work." But we did and now, we are living our lives.

Get a job you hippy socialists. No one cares about you.

The intellectual dishonesty of your generation is overwhelming.
And the lack of intellect/intelligence of your generation is astounding.

Yup. I think, in general, you are right.
But the boomers had the same problems you're facing now. There were major recessions in the 70s, 80s, and 90s that created exactly the same problems your generation is facing, and our mistakes and desires created the Big Whopper of 2007.
We're all in the same boat now. All you can do is try to learn from our mistakes and determine yourselves to not repeat them.

Good jobs have never been easy to find. The boomers may be the last generation who used their bodies more than their brains as a means to a career. I hope you guys are smarter; there are far too many of us who depended on strength and stamina alone to keep a roof over our heads and the family fed.

Far too many of us did squander when times were fat, and accepted struggle too readily when the times were lean. It takes a lot of determination and discipline to save a dime of every dollar when times are bad. I hope you develop that discipline; we were always too tempted for most of us to stick to it.

As importantly, learn to discern what is truly important to own and what is not. Learn that owning junk does not provide happiness. Choose carefully what living a good life really means or not, and keep those choices foremost in your planning.

In a harsh way, your present troubles are an advantage to you. My grandparents burned up their youth and prime working years in the Great Depression, and those times were even worse than these times. it caused them to never be optimistic that things would always be better, easier, and more fruitful. My parents, even though they went through World War II, the most dangerous to our nation in the 20th century, came out with far too much optimism, and we boomers were even more optimistic.

Their optimism did improve their lot vastly, but the effects of that optimism really only has lasted through their lives. We never capitalized on what they built as much as just used up what they built. Your generation will be the first where shortages of something critical will be a way of life for as long as you live.

That's another lesson for you; do like my Grandma did and never expect the good times are eternal once they roll around. They will roll around, with no doubt, as long as Americans are Americans. We always look forward, never backward, as a people. That is both our greatest strength and greatest weakness. Learn how to walk on the narrow edge.

Being a young, college educated, good looking, and well spoken young man I saw this field as an area that I would be able to distinguish myself in fairly easily.

It is working somewhat, but not nearly as quickly as I want it to. Like every other field of work these days it is hard to get that first job to give you experience. Even if the job is so meager and stupid that someone with down syndrome could do it, the employer still seeks someone who has years of experience for an entry level position.

Regarding your second paragraph, with the chronic shortage of jobs in this country today, I can't blame younger people for looking at the elderly with envy. Even with anger. They had their chance to save and make something of their lives but they should now move aside for the youth of the world today in this new age of job shortages. If our economy ever gets good again, then they can work until their hearts content.
If you're representative of others of your age, you're lost already.

Thinking about the ages here - wouldn't the Boomers be the Millenials' parents? So, they're basically complaining about Mom and Dad but then still living at home in large numbers, on their health insurance, and have the latest iPhone? So really, is this just being mad at Mom and Dad?
