Keystone XL - how does the right reconcile eminent domain with its ideals? Letting the government steal your land (and give it to a private foreign company) is against everything the Tea Party and the right stands for. Please explain.

Nebraska rancher Randy Thompson is still fighting the impending theft of his land. In the story and videos below he discusses his fight and the absolute folly of burying a pipeline below the water table.

The untold story of Keystone - How one Nebraska farmer killed the pipeline - Macleans.ca

The image below shows the impact of the pipeline and the amount of land to be taken.

I think that eminent domain (like most government powers) is abused a lot. I don't believe this is one of those times.

I will never forgive the Supreme Court for ruling that private property can be taken for economic development by private businesses (New London, CT). Thankfully, some States have passed laws to reign in the practice.

Why do you agree with eminent domain in this case? You approve of government expropriation for all pipelines or just this one?

Eminent domain for the benefit of the wealthy has been going on a long time. This example is particularly disgusting though in that the benefits accrue primarily to two foreign nations, China and Canada, with little if any benefit to the citizens of the United States. That tea party adherents can support the taking of American soil by foreign nations to benefit wealthy interests and our enemies is proof positive that the movement is nothing but a pawn of corporate fat cats.

This guy would be UNAFFECTED by the pipeline and in addtion GET PAID for the use of his land.

This is no different than the government forcing a baker to accept a gay couple as a customer for a wedding cake against their will.

And they call taxes theft.....lol. This DOES seem a little more direct.

And lets be honest, China and Canada benefit from this, we dont. If anything this is against our national interest.
