In an astonishing ruling, a Texas grand jury declined to press capital murder charges against a man who shot and killed a law enforcement officer executing a no-knock raid on his home. A Burleson County SWAT team raided the man's home near Snook on December 19th of last year.

I agree with the grand jury. If someone kicks in your front door you have every right to defend yourself and your family. The police are SUPPOSED to announce themselves and give the resident time to open the door.
The fact that the defendant was growing marijuana is irrelevant. There was no urgent need to enter the home without following the law. The marijuana plants could not possibly been flushed down the toilet or destroyed in a reasonable amount of time. The fact that the resident was known to own firearms should have been reason enough for the police to arrest him outside of the home.
No knock raids have become standard operating procedure for many police departments. These police departments are endangering the lives of citizens as well as their officers.
It is a shame the officer was killed however the blame is squarely on the shoulders of the police. Next time knock will ya?
I'm personally surprised that the defendant lived to stand trial. The way cops are it seems to me he would have been shot while resisting arrest. Had he known he was UNDER arrest and not becoming a victim of a home invasion perhaps the officer would still be alive?
My concern is that this won't lead to more politeness by officers - merely an increased level of force. Instead of sending an entry team through a door, maybe the next evolution in protocol will be to start the raid with incapacitation agents fired from well outside. Or to use a robot to enter and survey and "neutralize" any threats without risk to officers themselves.
You are about to see more of this as our Obama police state swings fully into action with the vanguard of the peoples paramilitary troops pushing hard to keep us safe from evil right wing republicans.

I wouldn't doubt it. Law enforcement agencies tend to be a bit hardheaded. Maybe another cop needs to die before they get the message.
I too agree with the grand jury and would have done the same thing the homeowner did. Anybody kick in my front door and they got many loads of Winchester XXX, 00 buck coming, express delivery. The Joe Biden method.
