OP. What's your point? I know that's in the bible where Phineas kills the foreign woman and the man of his own tribe because they were race mixing...what about it? People seriously use religion to hate race mixing? LOL...OK...

Well my god tells me that I am to kill all followers of Christ, where do I start legislating?

Weird my bible is okay with same sex marriage, maybe you are reading the wrong book. Also our country isn't governed by the bible because we have a separation of state and religion so that no one religion is in power of the country.

The comparison of gay marriage to interracial marriage is spurious at best. Most cultures and religions define marriage as a union between a man and woman which means men and women of different races can still marry. Jim Crow laws here in the states only existed to deny blacks equal treatment based on their skin color. Like I said earlier, marriage between races is as old as marriage itself.

I have never seen someone use the bible to dislike race mixing...have seen their personal opinions for reasons to not like it...but not religious...odd.

Thanks for proving my point.

Yet you wish to deny same sex couples the right to marry because it changes the definition of your marriage?

I was challenged to support my statement. I have done so.

And if you are asking what the point of my original statement was, it's that religion is often used to support prejudice and discrimination. People cite God as an authority to support their bigotry. They do so now in their opposition to same-sex marriage. They did so in the 1950's (and even some do so today) in their opposition to interracial marriage. That is why people draw the parallels between the two issues.

To those who say that the religious arguments against interracial marriage were based on perversions of Christian beliefs, I would say that the religious arguments against same-sex marriage are similarly based on perversions of Christian beliefs.
