For the first time ever, the majority of Americans are scared of their own federal government. A Pew Research poll found that 53% of Americans think the government threatens their personal rights and freedoms.
I laugh every time I hear an argument like this. Saddam had a million armed men with many of them being battle hardened veterans from the Iraq/Iran war. How did he do?
A militia equipped with small arms (which are the only legal arms available) can not hold the government accountable. Far from it... AR-15s will never insure mutually assured destruction... If the government really wanted to take your property or rights a Remington won't stop them...
You forget that an army is made up of relatives of citizens. If a bunch of politicians start ordering Generals to fire on citizens, you'll find 50 million carbines are more than an adequate deterrent. The first people to be taken out would be those politicians, and I'd bet there would be plenty of military doing the taking out.
They'd probably be harder on Democrats; who always wave the patriot flag for cameras, only to cut the legs out of the military at every opportunity.
I'm not arguing about what the amendment says. If it is repealed the constitution will no longer say "Shall not be infringed". .....
You need a 2/3 votes in Congess just to get it on the table and 3/4 of the states for ratification. If just 13 states say no then it won't happen. You can talk about "what if..." all you want but don't expect it to happen in your lifetime.
