If holding a weapon is the only way you can get people to pay attention to your opinions, it should tell you something about the quality of your opinions. Oh, and that isn't respect.

That it does. But is "I am so bad at arguing my opinions, I need to resort to violence" a particularly worthwhile point to get across, in your opinion?
Sure, if I find myself faced with an enraged gorilla, I will probably readjust my behavior as regards ownership of bananas. That's not respect, it doesn't make the gorilla right, and it ultimately tends to end badly for the gorilla.
Good luck getting a Constitutional Amendment, you have better chances of winning the lottery than seeing a Constitution Amendment that says marriage is between a man and a woman.
A congressman from Kansas has drafted a bill with the intention of amending the US Constitution that will declare marriage is restricted to only opposite sex couples.
It seems unlikely this effort will see fruition.
However, it must be pointed out that a constitutional amendment is the one option - and perhaps the only option - opponents of legalized same-sex marriage have.
The major polling organizations - Gallup, Pew, Quinnipiac, etc. - have published data that says the majority of Americans are in support of marriage equality. Therefore, all of these protestations made by those opposed to it, I think, are in vain.

That seems to be the gist of the bill that just passed in Kansas:
This guy thinks he's a martyr, doesn't he? He only commits to losing fights because it's safe....he never would have to take responsibility for any controversial legislation.
Is this really what the GOP needs? More intellectual dishonesty and rhetoric in favor of actually working together and coming up with legislation? Are they rusty because they haven't done this in decades?

No matter how often you repeat the mantra of "between man and woman," it is only wishful thinking on your part.
The mantra that bears repeating is: Marriage Equality is coming to all 50 states. Believe it!
