Eliminate jobs? There would be no cashiers and lawns wouldn't be cut? Me thinks somebody would have to do these jobs no matter if for $5 / hr or $50 / hr. ?
Cashiers are being replaced by computers and 'apps'....lawn care is done on a flat rate.
The OP is living in some kind of dream world, and isn't dealing with real data. All available evidence shows that raising the minimum wage causes job loss.

Cashiers are being replaced by technology because people like using technology. My grocery store I get to use a price gun as I shop which means I know exactly how much I am spending, how much I am saving, and when I finish shopping, I am done and can basically leave after paying for my items that I already scanned while shopping.
Yes but people steal and someone has to watch and make sure nobody cheats an automated cash register. There is still plenty of manual minimum wage jobs out there.

There are plenty that are. If half are automated out of existence, what happens to the people that hold them?
Have you seen this? IRobot (the Roomba people) are working on a robot that can operate in a much more human-like way, and do many of the current repetitive jobs that still require people to do, and do so at a cost that's below that of Chinese labor (let alone American.) What happens when these become widespread?

People will cut their own lawns (or hire a neighborhood kid to do it) if hiring a professional is too expensive. Raising the expense of employing a cashier would encourage stores to put in more self-checkout kiosks in stores and result in fewer jobs.
Businesses will find ways to get through their day-to-day activities with fewer employees if their labor costs suddenly increased by 50%-100%.

How is that relevant ? Automation happens even now at $7.25/hr?
Some simple jobs simply can't be automated.
