Ok I'm not a left wing whacko, and pretty conservative, but this should scare the heck out of everyone. What's next government censors blacking out stories? I thought journalists were supposed to be free to investigate and report. I wonder if this government monitoring will apply equally to NBC as it will obviously to FOX?

The media is already in his pocket, he's just making sure they stay there for this important election year.

Are they going to be camped out at Fox news also or just the slobbering networks that already support/worship him?

Why is everyone afraid of a study?

Who knows perhaps the study will conclude that the News Media isn't controlled by a very few organizations which exercise control over what gets on the air and thereby exert control over what information is generally available to the average citizen.

Government is getting too big, too intrusive, too intimidating, no wonder the TEA party movement exits, with this president turning our federal government into a beast.

We really need to go back and reform all of these administrative agencies, like the IRS, EPA, NSA, FCC, FDA and take away their power to write laws, hand out fines and punishments, etc... Only the Congress has the Constitutional power to write law.

The lame assed Congress created a fourth branch of government by sharing their Constitutional authority with a third party, one that is controlled by the Executive branch, and Congress is not doing anything to provide proper oversight.

Much ado about nothing, this whole monitor bit.
It is not much ado about nothing. People in Venezuela are protesting because of clear limitations on free speech.

Government intrusion into news rooms is offensive whether done by Democrats or Republicans. I immensely dislike MSNBC's coverage of the news and politics, but they have their right to do what they see fit.

Where are Obama's priorities? Will this effort create jobs? Reduce poverty? Improve health? No. It is an obsessive desire to control what is said about his administration.

Here is what Ajit Pai stated.

Participation in the Critical Information Needs study is voluntary—in theory. Unlike the opinion surveys that Americans see on a daily basis and either answer or not, as they wish, the FCC's queries may be hard for the broadcasters to ignore. They would be out of business without an FCC license, which must be renewed every eight years.

What would stop the FCC without the study just denying, say Fox News a license?

What's next, government asking us why we purchase a particular automobile, and if we refuse to answer they can deny our license renewal? They do not have the constitutional authority to be sticking their noses where it does not belong.

We are a free society, but that freedom only survives as long as the men and women elected into powerful positions in government possess virtue and integrity, and do not abuse the power granted to them.

One more time not that it will matter this time either. It's none of their business.

Just ignore partisan drones like that. As soon as a Republican president starts doing the same things as Obama, he'll start screaming like a stuck pig.
