Black people are a beautiful race, they should have nothing to hide or be ashamed of.

Time and time again, we see way too many Black celebrities and regular folks relaxing their hair, making it blonde, getting nose surgery and even waist/hip reductions. It just seems so obvious that many are changing their appearances to look "White".

Racial Psychology: Why Do Black People Want to be White? | The New Observer

Is it social pressure? The media? Is it because 90% of commercials on television use White actors?

What is the main influence.. what is going on?

Treat me with respect on this subject, I am an Iraq veteran and I am also black.

So what are black people so afraid of? Do they feel that they need to be accepted in a "White World"?

It's common in many places, plastic surgery in South Korea to look more Caucasian, for example. I'm white, so I can't say why, but it doesn't make sense to me, as long as a person bathes daily, I don't much care what they look like...

I think Sammy Sosa and Michael Jackson are the only ones guilty of trying to look white here. Nikki Minaj does all types of hair colors. That is just her style. Beyonce is the same thing. She is a super celebrity. She just wants to have a distinguished look.

Sounds reasonable but it also sounds like a quick dismissal of the underlying cause.

What if the roles reversed here. What if Jim Carry did a hair transplant to have nappy hair? Or if Jimmy Fallon took skin pigmentation pills to be black?

Of course the topic of Mulattos would not count here, because their looks would be non-surgical and non-altered by using products... here are examples of folks just being born that way:

Mariah Carey, Derek Jeter, Barack Obama, Alicia Keys, etc.

One could definitely argue the opposite. Some white young men are adopting affectations of black rappers. Their way of speaking, hair styles, "fashion" statement of gold teeth grills and slouching butt hugging pants just to name a few.

That is not acting black. Everything you wrote is about being urban and it crosses all racial lines.

I didn't say my examples were "acting black". I said black rappers made these fashions popular and white kids are mimicking them.

Hmmm...outside of Michael Jackson and Sosa, none of those people are trying to be white. Dying your hair blonde doesn't mean you want to be white. Plenty of natural brunette/red haired white women do the same! And Nicki Minaj's own hair (underneath the wig) is actually natural, so your argument there is out.

I would imagine that many straighten their hair for manageability. I used to relax my hair for many years, but went natural about 1.5 years ago. When you grow up used to having straight hair, it is an adjustment learning how to do things the natural way. There are plenty of curly-haired white people who undergo similar processes to straighten their hair.

BTW, butt implants, lip injections and tanning could all be ways that some are seeking to look more "ethnic", but rather than focus on them, I say let folks do what they want with their bodies and hair.

What does "adopting affectations" mean then? Is that not talking about acting and talking a certain way? Black rappers didn't make these things popular as if this is some manufactured thing. Many of these rappers came from backgrounds where this was how folks dress/talk. That white society has turned it into a dress code is a whole 'nother story.

Well, I'd say Madonna for example wearing a gold grill as a fashion statement is an affectation.
