When it comes to manufacturing these days the US truly sucks, and we have unions to thank for that.

Union Membership today only accounts for 11% of the workforce.

Union Members Summary

Quote:
In 2013, the union membership rate--the percent of wage and salary workers who were
members of unions--was 11.3 percent
Also, for 2013, Unions spent 46,367,803 dollars lobbying coming in close to the bottom of the list.
Contrast that with the top dogs.

Lobbying Spending Database | OpenSecrets

Finance/Insur/RealEst $484,631,853
Health $480,263,898
Misc Business $479,509,408
Communic/Electronics $391,131,203
Energy/Nat Resource $356,625,408
Transportation $221,544,856
Other $217,299,006
Agribusiness $149,558,306
Ideology/Single-Issue $143,093,727
Defense $133,835,857
Construction $49,151,726
Labor $46,367,803
Lawyers & Lobbyists $22,127,084

What "chased" manufacturing and other jobs out of the US was the search for Greater Profits and it did not matter to them what economic system the country they ran to was under since they are not paying for it, unlike here in the US.

It was not the Unions that lobbied for the disastrous Trade Pacts we have with favored nation China.

If an American was making 30 bucks an hour, 10 bucks an hour or 10 bucks a day even and a China Man 1 buck a day with no rights and freedoms, then the choice is obvious. Profits over People and Country.

No retailer should ever be that large. Do you ever stop to think that WallMart sets the price of all products around the Globe? They may in some cases not directly fix a price, but the sale price is based on Wallmarts average anyway.

There are monopolies in almost every market. No different. At least it's on the low end of the spectrum vs energy or water or anything related to Govt.

If anything, the unions over the years have helped raise the standard of living , while WallMart has lowered the standard of living.

Which today is comparing an American car to the model T. Increased population, immigration increases, public schools, taxes, moving jobs and a global economy have just as much to do with standard of living. You cannot blame it all on WM no matter how convenient it might be.

Walmart is a symptom of the disease in this country that is quite prevalent.
The less they payout to their workers means more money in the pockets of the CEO's and Shareholders.

It is no longer a country for the people by the people and to the people, but for the shareholders to the shareholders and by the shareholders all with Big Government's Blessing.

Capitalism, Business and Main Street America can exist without the Big Wall Street Banks but the Big Wall Street Banks cannot exist without them.

Our Government Foreign and Economic Policies have all been centered around propping them up and catering to their every whim at the expense to this country every where you look because it is the top elite that run the country and benefit greatly from this arrangement.

How do you know that those American beer companies are not watering down their beer by 30-40% just for sale at Wal-Mart?

Left wingers cannot control Walmart. Walmart does what it wants, regardless of pressure from left wing groups.

Today almost all the Machinery sold in the US , to make products made in the US come from Japan. On the other hand I have bought my fair share of products directly from China ..good quality and fair pricing. Mostly on eBay and a few other web sites.Today if you can get together enough people that wants the same product( 20 foot containers worth ) that so far no one in the US will make you can buy directly from the MFG in China. This retail /wholesale market is growing, and will get much bigger as China throws out all the Wallmarts who only want cheap stuff and encourage child labor, sweat shops, poor working conditions ( the Chinese Gov. hands are not clean ether, but they are always the final word ) However .Its not China Government that started this , its companies like Wallmart coming in and actually creating the problems in order to get all the crap , shipped many thousands of miles , by all modes of transportation , just so it can be put on the shelf, price slashed special by a stupid smiley face.

Only WalMart and nobody else sells products made in China? That's funny, because I see the same products in other stores. Who supplies other stores, the Amish?
