FOOTBALL 'A Sport That Sucks' SAYS DUTCH OLYMPIC COACH - YouTube

I heard this on Rush Limbaugh the other day. Rush said that was an indication of how much influence the US left has around the world. There is a certain segment on the left that is salivating to go after football the same as was done with tobacco in the 1990's. I could be wrong, but I think eventually this will happen via litigation, same as with tobacco. It will take years due to the popularity of football, but I think it will happen in due course.

Dutch speed skaters have won 23 of 36 medals thus far at the Sochi Olympics. Coach Jillert Anema says the US can't compete with the Dutch because we waste our talent on a "foolish sport."

Quote:
You have a lot of attention on a foolish sport like American football and you waste a lot of talent, athletic talent, on a sport that is meant to kill each other, to injure each other. … You’re so narrow-minded, and then you want to compete against the world [in other sports] when you waste a lot of time, good talent on a sport that sucks

LOL! Football is "foolish" and is "meant to kill, to injure each other"?

The point of a football game is to put a ball across a line and the other team tries to stop the team with the ball from doing so, using contact.

As for speed skating, it is similar.

A skater tries to be the first one across a line, and some of those hits when a skater is wiped out from colliding with an opponent are rather hard.

Football players don't have blades attached to their shoes.

More potential for blood in speed skating, but Harrier won't go down to this Dutch guy's level and call his sport foolish.

Our athletes are making millions of dollars and have little interest in skating around in circles like a bunch of Dutch ice fairies.

Somehow I can't see someone like Anthony Munoz ever being a speed skater.

Who cares?

The number of Dutch criminals has nothing to do with the topic under discussion.

Your first mistake was listening to Limbaugh. If you turned him off you would fix a number of your problems. As for the quote, the Dutch are killing it at speed skating because the country actually invests in speed skating for the sake of winning medals.

When it comes to the Olympics, American Football is a foolish sport because there is no American style football in the Olympics. But that is his opinion and he is entitled to it, and the Dutch have earned bragging rights.

I was just thinking the same thing about soccer with all the after game riots taking a toll on the fans. I don't think NFL 'Hooliganism' has ever killed anyone over here?

he could have likened speed skating to Nascar ~ "go like hell and turn left" in a much better analogy.

I agree with him that football is foolish as is speed skating. Virtually all athletics are foolish, but they are sometimes an interesting distraction.
