Just curious. I'd also include libertarians in this question. If they do join what's their experience like?

I was in a union for 37 years. I used to deliver a "package" to KC every other week. I was told not to look what was in it and I didn't. Then one day this old guy comes up and shoots me.

yes they do, becuase republicans are smart enough to want bargaining power to, just like other groups of professionals and companies form associations to further their own interests

and unfortunately most people arent informed as they should be, but NO union can force the withdrawal of money from your paycheck for political contributions. just go up to the office desk and tell them you dont dues for politcal contributions deducted. and if any union official tells a union member anything to the contrary, that union member should come back with a lawyer and a plan for what theyre going to spend all that money they get from the lawsuit on.

i belonged to the carpenters union for 20 years almost and have never contributed one penny to the democratic party via my dues or any either form a payment

Sure. There are some people that are not single issue voters.

Many unionized jobs you have to be a member as a condition of employment. I know I did on the railroad.

Of course they join the union, they suck up union benefits while voting for those who wish to eliminate them. That is actually quite typical of Republicans, many members of the Tea Party wail and scream for benefits while shrieking that government be shrunk and spending be curtailed.

It's the power of the Dumbing Down of America on display.

Hell yes I joined the teacher's union for two main reasons:

1. I'm not going to get sued by little Susie's mom because Susie didn't do her homework and has now failed (it happens). My union provides lawyers who specialize in protecting teachers from stupid lawsuits.

2. The union is the sole bargainer of any future wage increases/decreases with the state. If they get to decide for me on what is going to happen with my paycheck and benefits, then I'm going to decide who is in a leadership role in the union.

I was required to as part of my employment. As I promoted I was able to opt out of the union.
