It's important to note that these figures used by Age UK and taken from the Office of National Statistics, also include those who have died as a result of on-going conditions such as respiratory problems and cardiovascular (heart) problems made worse by the cold. They are not people literally freezing to death. So the figures include any old person who dies in winter of a heart attack, asthma, bronchitis and numerous other conditions made worse by the cold. It also should be noted that in the UK pensioners receive a winter fuel payment from Government during Cold Weather.
It's important to note that only 1 in 100 cold winter deaths is as a result of hypothermia. The majority are as a result of underlying cardiovascular problems (35%) or respiratory problems (35%) and exacerbated by cold homes.
Some people have nothing to do but blather and nay say.
A few years ago after the gulf oil spill the gulf stream stopped that brought warmer air to England , which had never happened before .
Their plumbing was set in the ground at the anticipated frost level ,that had not changed in hundreds of years.
Moscow did not have the advantage of the gulf stream and their temperatures were always lower , so homes there are built for the conditions that have always been.
Now they share pretty much the same temps because of it.
So for England this is unusual, impossible to anticipate.
Millions of homes and businesses built for the wrong latitude , dependent on that gulf stream.
I don't know if there is a correlation between the spill and the gulf stream or some other event caused the change ,never the less It is unlikely to return to what it was. Or to dream that it should.
The only alternative is to accept multiple family home living combining resources.
If anything our winters are getting wetter rather than colder and as a result we need to invest in new flood defence schemes, dredging and new engineering solutions, such as underground holding reservoirs or even simplistic things such as planting more trees to absorb water and reengineering some hillsides to prevent fast water run off.

There is no OBJECTIVE scientific evidence of man-made global warming. The global warming alarmists have thrown out the window the basic principles of science and have embraced an unproven theory as absolute fact. In doing so, they reject science and adhere to junk science, as told by the media.
I am all for preserving the environment, clean air and water, and promoting wildlife and forest preservation- it is just good common sense. Instead of making up the "grand lie" of global warming and attempting to frighten people with junk science, those embracing global warming, if thier objective was to "improve the environment", should have touted alternative energy sources as a more clean means to satisfy our energy needs while transtitioning away from fossil fuels. I think most would approve of that.
However, the real goal of "global warming" is reducing ONLY US industrial production, while China and India contribute the lion's share of global pollution. The objective of the "global warming" crowd has little to do with protecting the environment and quite a bit about leftist politics.
Ever wonder why conservative envrionmentalists DO NOT embrace "global warming"?
1. It is unproven junk science
2. Even if it was true, there is no evidence that cutting US production would do ANYTHING globally
3. It fails to examine OBJECTIVELY other potential causes of "climate change" and zeros in on only ONE CAUSE AND ONE CAUSE ONLY (it is hard to tax solar activity or the earth's orbit around the sun).
4. Most "global warming" initiatives do little to actually cut emissions, they just tax it and redistribute money.

The extreme environmental nutjobs will be calling for this person's head. Heretics and infidels must be put down for questioning the dogma of the AGW cult.
On the other end of the spectrum the EPA and environmental organizations will use figures compiled like that in the same way. When they say 20K people died from X disease caused by X pollution few people question how those numbers were produced.
I agree, it's always worthwhile checking where figures come from and who is using them for what purpose.
In terms of global warming, I don't really see an issue, even if Global Warming doesn't exist we still need to clean up our act, and new fuels certainly have a lot of potential to replace fossil fuels thereby helping to reduce pollution.
The UK has some of the worst levels of home energy efficiency in Europe, and other much colder countries have much lower death rates in winter than the UK because their homes are better insulated.
With high quality insulation and modern technology, millions of UK homes could be made much warmer. And the Government could pay for this using the billions of pounds they already raise in carbon taxes. This would bring down bills, and above all, help millions of older people keep warm and healthy through the winter. What is Spread the Warmth?
All your article provided was how others can do it for the older people. My dad in his 80's would make sure he had enough wood and took care of the widows in his church. This is how it works, not your liberal government plan!

This piece that you read regarding the EPA wanting to phase out wood stoves is bunk. You can fact check these things before typing something that could make you look foolish. There will be no confiscation of wood stoves and the ones on the show room floor will still be sold. The manufacturers will produce a cleaner more efficient stove. Yes. It's pointless and the "cleaner" stoves mostly do not exist, and can't be made useful.
