Read it, absolute BS. USA and Europeans tried to calm things down, talks, compromises, etc. that would keep Ukrainian president in power. If anything Europeans and US just watched the events to unfold. Same with collapse of USSR Russians are so upset with, you should remember Bush I lecturing Ukrainian parliament on the benefits of preserving USSR. Conspirologists in this thread underestimate the power of the internal political forces and circumstances. The point - there would not be current turmoil without Russia stirring things up for its own benefit. Former Ukrainian president was universally hated just about by everyone, including the people who voted him in.
Um, talking through the media is part of the diplomatic game. Beyond that, you can believe everyone is all over this, talking to various channels behind the scenes. I mean really.
And the news just announced Obama and Putin have spoken by phone. Diplomacy is rarely straightforward. It takes a lot of finesse. Despite all the idea of 2 leaders sitting down at a political summit fixing everything, it's all pomp and circumstance. Those kinds of meetings comes at the very end, after a thousand people whose names we'll never know have done all the dirty, grunt work.

You really think that the media is the first step to resolve something of this nature? That diplomatic diplomacy is conducted via the media? Is Obama working ass backwards? Get on the media, threaten Putin, threaten Putin, threaten Putin, then call him. Do you think Putin folded and called Obama? I don't.
Merkel and Cameron have been on the phone with Putin - and not in the past hour. Have you read their comments - the language they are using? They are handling this with diplomacy, but I don't think you understand what diplomacy is. One is not being diplomatic when they are issuing threats.
Who suggested that 2 leaders sitting down at a political summit can fix everything? When did 2 leaders ever fix anything without intermediaries, other people involved, negotiations, and everything else that it takes to resolve a major issue?
It's not "unbelievable" at all .... it's SOP. To Biden's credit, at least he joined the meeting by video conference. The UN is meeting this afternoon and our Fearless Leader can't even be bothered to sit down with his National Security Team, Dempsey, the CIA Director, Clapper and Hagel. John Podesta (Obama's new political advisor) was representing the President .... which is right and proper, since Obama views all things through a personal political lens.

Looks like you can't read. You mixed up stating the obvious truth (you cannot deny) with admiration. Also, you don't understand how things work in Russia and other post soviet countries. Corruption is rampant. Cohesive ethnic minorities have an edge in business & law because they are better at using graft etc. to push for the legal decisions that benefit them. Increasingly, they get their own people in law, administration and police.

This is the way Obama should have started off. First try to establish a dialogue with Putin rather than using the media and threatening Russia. If it wasn't for Merkel and Cameron I don't think Putin would have taken the call.
Yes, the division in Ukraine goes back hundreds of years. You are too quick to blame US for every ill on the planet.
Like it or not, USA is a world' policeman, a country other countries and their people appeal to. The worst it can do is to do nothing when Putin dusted off old scenarios of Adolf Hitler thus undermining entire post WWII world order.
