You hear all this conspiracy talk about thousands of people fighting off felons with their registered weapons. And "the mainstream media ignores it". That's certainly possible, but if you injure or kill someone with your private handgun, how does all knowledge of it go missing? Are most states just excusing the shootings with no legal process? Every place I've ever lived would bring the incident to a trial to establish by due process "justifiable homicide". And where a prosecutor decided NOT to put a trial on the docket, there still would be a record in the police files. I just spent a few minutes trying to find statistics on gunshots claimed to be self-defense. So are gun activists saying all such records just mysteriously disappear? Even for that there should be names and dates that the FBI could receive from whatever source to establish a history in the national crime information network.
Or, alternate theory, its a cult belief that something exists whether a palpable record can be found or not.

huh, here are a few news stories for you two. 162 pages, 30-40 stories per page. It could still be a conspiracy getting all these newspapers to publish all these stories, no?
Crime is understated by the authorities
sadly what you have said is true
someone tries to kill u and u kill them instead
first thing that happens Is YOU go on trial

That generally is true in anti-gun locales. In most of the country, if you shoot someone in legit self-defense you usually won't have a problem w/ authorities.

To use Florida as an example, authorities in Florida can not arrest a person unless there is probable cause to disprove the self-defense claim:
776.032(2) A law enforcement agency may use standard procedures for investigating the use of force as described in subsection (1), but the agency may not arrest the person for using force unless it determines that there is probable cause that the force that was used was unlawful.
