L.A. bans e-cigarettes in parks, restaurants and workplaces - latimes.com

Los Angeles has now decided to treat e-cigarettes the same as cigarettes in so far as where smoking them is allowed. Several other cities, and even five entire states, have done the same. What are your thoughts on this? E-cigarettes only emit water vapor.

It's not about health, it's about control. That much was admitted by the L.A. County Health commissioner in the Times article.

No. Chemically I can't see how they'd be health hazards, especially to people other than the smoker. Blanket bans with no science are awful moves by overreaching governments.

No, I think it makes no sense to ban e-cigarettes, though I am fine with regulations when it comes to age of buying them.

I partially agree, I believe they should be regulated the same way caffeine is regulated since both nicotine and caffeine are similarly addictive.

You have to be 18 or older to smoke or buy cigarettes, the same should be in place for e-cigarettes.

Agreed, though that is the only restriction from municipalities that I would support. Children should not have nicotine products period. But I, a responsible adult, should be able to vape in public as I please.

yeah, with a bunch of deadly toxins in it

i'm all for science, but if its tobacco you need to prove the vapor contains nothing.

From what I read there is no smoke, but the vapor is second hand and contains crap and thus. . . fits under the intent of a smoking ban

It’s not real tobacco smoke, but the emissions from electronic cigarettes can still contain harmful ingredients.

A new study published in the journal Nicotine and Tobacco Research shows that e-cigarettes generate enough nicotine emissions that they can be inhaled by those near a smoker. The researchers conducted two studies on three brands of e-cigarettes that investigated what the devices emitted into the surrounding air.

I know that, but you don't have to be 18 to order the quad latte at Starbucks.

Take coffee or energy drinks away from the majority of drinkers and watch the withdrawal symptoms.

I don't have a problem with it being legal for someone under 18 to purchase. I leave that decision to the parents.
