They are running scared now that pot is being readily accepted. They fear that their jobs are in danger so they make stupid statements like this one.
--------------------
...pressed by Rep. Steve Cohen (D-Tenn.), Harrigan said that "every single parent out there" opposed marijuana legalization.

"Your statement that all parents are against this is ludicrous," said Cohen. "What do you think, that people who are in favor of decriminalization or changing policy don't procreate?"

DEA: "Every Single Parent" Opposes Pot Legalization. Except For All the Ones That Don't. - Hit & Run : Reason.com

Harrigan is an idiot. Lot's of parents smoke pot WITH their children just like lots of parents drink wine WITH their children.

The DEA believes that marijuana should stay a Schedule I drug. They want you to believe it is as dangerous as heroin.

It's ridiculous. The DEA is either completely incompetent (unlikely) or is pushing lies to try and scare people so they can justify their existence, screw the taxpayers and keep arresting people who's "crimes" hurt no one.

Well let's focus on the catching of harder drugs? Or the enforcement of drug laws?

There is a prison industrial complex, just as there is a military one.

But people will adapt to fewer arrests. People will still need to be enforced. We have lots of crimes that should be enforced. How about border control? How about enforcing the immigration laws?

this is what an out-of-control government agency looks like

i did some quick research -- basically this guy was in charge of the "High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area" of Appalachia

in other words, his job was to bust hillbillies growing pot in the mountains.

Good thread.

Ending the war on drugs (fueled by racism, control, and even the DEA and CIA selling drugs themselves) is something any person who values liberty can get behind.

So now he fears his job might go away so he must use fear tactics to save it.

It's time to totally abolish the DEA.

Unconstitutional war on drugs.

I wasn't around for the prohibition on alcohol but at least the federal government followed the proper process in banning it. Big mistake and they followed the proper process in allowing it again. If they wanted to ban drugs, they should have followed the Amendment process.

Instead we got the Controlled Substances Act, which has science that a 2nd grader could tell is false.
