Because it is "for the good of society"!
Or, "It is for the children"!
Or, "It is in the interest of the public health"!
ETC.

Oh, and let's not forget that Congress can't be bothered to perform the oversight that they are supposed to, so our elected "representatives" allow the regulatory agencies to have free reign over the country.

Unfortunately, regulatory agencies are part of the Executive Branch. The President has control over those agencies and can promulgate as many regulations as he sees fit. You don't hear about it much, but that is where the true power of the Presidency lies. The failure resides in Congress, who has the power to reign in those regulations and chooses to do nothing but complain. This is also one downside to a divided Congress....literally no way to reign in over-regulation when one party controls each chamber.

Congress only wheels and deals with their monied donors to make sure they don't get hurt by laws.
And then they pass laws with no details and let the agencies all make "final rulings".

We have a pseudo dictatorship going on here. The Executive Branch is calling the shots and Congress lets them.

Will someone explain to me what is so wrong about regulating public air, water, and safety standards?

Despite constant b**ching about regulations, no one ever specifically lists a regulation that is "anti-business."

You nailed it. There is no accountability whatsoever. That's exactly how Obamacare became the monster that it is - through regulations - not statute.

Will you explain to us why you are so narrowly focused on one particular set of regulatory schemes? Government promulgated over 11,000 pages of regulations since Obama took office, costing the American economy $1.7 TRILLION in compliance costs.

Does it compute with you the number of man hours and dollars that are pulled out of the production and creation process just to comply? And that's just under ONE PRESIDENT!

Nothing wrong with that, as long as We The People have a say. We don't.
The control has by-passed our elected representatives. We cannot hold those responsible, accountable.
The many voters have no clue the agencies are under direct control of the President. Even the DOJ.

The monster was created during the Progressive push to by-pass the Constitution, when Communism, Socialism, Fascism, and Progressivism, were vogue.

government regulation hits every part of our lives, but lets keep a narrow focus on what you are on about. lets talk about pollution regulation for instance. the government tends to focus on one area, and ignore others, or they fail to realize that we cannot eliminate all pollution, and they fail to realize that there is also a point of diminishing returns. lets narrow even further shall we?

take the automobile for instance, since the 1960s, emissions have been cut by 98%, and yet this administration wants more cuts. but we are at a point where cutting one thing means an increase in emissions in another area, such is the nature of the internal combustion engine. cut HC emissions, and NOx emissions go up.

also remember that new regulations mean more expense, which means higher prices. so be careful what you ask for, you may just get it.
