Note; These are all hypotheticals and I'm not describing myself below.

Suppose I am a gay male. I want a gay marital license. (Any Northeast state)

On the weekends I want to smoke marijuana (well it is a good medicine for my conscience). I would like a 60-day supply (Massachusetts)

I like to drive without worrying that if I go the wrong way on the highway I will have to pay unwanted tolls (Connecticut)

I also like to be able to pay low gas prices and have the old fashioned convenience someone will fill my car up without me having to pump the gas in the pouring rain (New Jersey)

I like that when I speed if I must, it's only a civil penalty and non-criminal (Massachusetts)

I am a very responsible hunter and so I can be trusted with a gun open-carry or concealed (Vermont)

I met some really cute guys and they told me they were 18 and they lied they were really only 16. Yes I was 26 but we grew up together and his parents were ok with it and he consented. It would be sad for everyone if I should face prison over this (Connecticut age of consent 16)

I was looking at pictures of hot girls online dancing and one of the pictures the girl said she was 19 but was really 15 and it's the only photo depiction like that ...oh no oh I'm so screwed. (Connecticut minimum prosecution is 3 visual depictions of kiddie porn)

I want to drive toll-free but not pay gas taxes (Buy gas in Massachusetts, live in Connecticut)

When driving on the road I like to use my cell phone without pulling over. Can I at least dial someone's number while driving? (It's ok in NY state)

If I see something obscene on YouTube I can still view it...it's not like I downloaded it or anything "NY state"

I have an adorable baby Yorkshire terrier. Can I bring her everywhere I go and eat at outdoor restaurants with her in stroller? (NY state Lake George. Newport, Rhode Island).

What if I could actually go to a store where when the price of that frizbee is $2.75 the cashier will actually say "your total is exactly $2.75"? (New Hampshire)

I want to meet my Quebec friend from Canada but I don't have a passport and neither does he "Haskell Free Library Derby Line, Vermont is on international boundary and open to Americans AND Canadians...no passport required

As for Maine - (see verses 6 thru 9) of Lil Bay folk song
The University of Maine - Maine Folklife Center - Lily Bay, “The Good Old State of Maine”
My apologies for not citing the source before

Also for Maine, the state may the only one that allows an electoral vote tally to be split between presidential candidates, based on different voting results between North and South within the state.

Meh...I don't know about all that.

New Englanders are generally smarter than folks in the rest of the country hands down.

Where or not that translates into more freedom is questionable.

Great post!

I'd ad to the list "if a woman needs to terminate a pregnancy, she can"

A woman can destroy a fetus in any state up to a certain point.

Are you for real?

I drove through NY and Jersey a few weeks ago. I racked up $140 in tolls over one damn day. How is that freedom? On Friday I had to go through two checkpoints, show my ID, be checked over and so on. It took me five hours to drive from Brooklyn to Manhattan and back, oh and $60 in tolls.

There are no freedoms left in America. Everything, every aspect of our lives is censored, controlled, monitored, TAXED, regulated and penalized by big daddy government.

Issues like Gay marriage, abortion, women's rights and other controversies are a smoke screen for what is really happening. We are becoming a full-on communist country that will eventually have to go to our government for any and all questions, wants, desires and needs.

It's like slowly boiling a frog!

I also left out the Northeast political stance on whether Fluoride should be added to tap water. Northeast gives you a choice here as well

New Jersey is unique in being one of the only states to reduce the fluoride in tap water, despite its benefits to teeth, because NJ believes it should be an individual's choice whether to use fluoride or not.

But if you want the fluoride without having to buy it, Massachusetts will put a good amount of it in your tap.

Really who cares. Americans need jobs and our economy stinks and you are worried about what some do behind closed door.

Ha! I can drive all day long throughout the State of Texas, and never pay one single toll. We do have toll roads, but those are usually alternate roads people use to avoid traffic in the cities, never the open highway. I'm shocked at alaskaboy's post. I had no idea it was that expensive to travel up there.

Oh, and if I want to terminate a pregnancy, I can do it up to 20 weeks gestation. The only problem around here is that they're shutting down a lot of the abortion clinics because they aren't surgical facilities or near a hospital where the abortionist has admitting privileges. I'm sure one of the goals is to shut those clinics down, but another was to avoid the house of horrors like the one in Philadelphia (there's a lot more of those than you think). I live in a major city, so it wouldn't affect me. Not that it would anyway since I'm beyond the age of the typical person wanting an abortion.

And Eric, a 26-year old with a 16-year old, seriously? Even with parental consent that's pretty gross.

How did this end up in the freedom category? What about the freedom to pump your own gas?

As far as I know, in all 50 states gas stations are allowed to hire an attendant to pump gas for you. In these states you have the freedom to pump it yourself or have someone pump in for you. In New Jersey you don't have a choice. That's not a "freedom."

How about the freedom to buy a Tesla direct from one of their showrooms? That's illegal in New Jersey thanks to Chris Christie's crony capitalism deal with the car dealers.
