The key part is their governments listened to their people to ban these things.

We have a party dedicated to saying any regulation on food safety is an infringment on the rights of business. Be that labeling their food to say what's in it, not putting junk in it, inspecting food for contamination, and shipping in food from other places without inspection. We voted those people in and we have the ability to vote them out if food safety is important, which seems to be less so in the US then it is in Europe.

Just to add: Businesses influence politics with their cash, that's pretty well a given. It's not a conspiracy, just a fact of life that politicians with big bankrolls are more likely to win because people like the media it buys. It's also a lot easier to satisfy one big donor with a concise opinion than thousands of small donors each with their own opinion on things. Get the big money out of politics and this will be less of a problem.

Agreed. It's another example of the same problem - that the people are not well represented by their government. The funding of campaigns certainly doesn't make it easier.
