I don't think everything should be halal, but there should be safe options for these children.

Eating within dietary restraints is a huge deal for Muslims, we should be sensitive to that.
School is for education. School is not for religion sensitive dietary restraints. PERIOD (as our Fearless Leader would say).

How kind of you not to insist that all food should be halal - if these children and their parents feel so strongly about their faith requirements, then they should provide that for their children by providing lunch. Nannism and Government interference is going way too far as are the people who insist on "faith requirements" in our public schools. Halal IS pushing religion, as are footpaths and prayer during school hours. Kosher would be the same thing and we don't have (or should have) that either. Perhaps these schools would have better results if they concentrated on Education and not all the extraneous stuff that has nothing to do with Education.

Seriously...I don't see a problem here.

This is a local issue.

Internationally, the link between nutrition and educational performance is well documented. School lunches help underprivileged students get a better shot at learning. It might be the only real meal some get each day.

No. Not everyone thinks so. Also the slaughter method is considered controversial by many.

We've got a few people who only eat halal at work. Our office manager either orders somewhere halal or reserves vegetarians stuff for them. No one has an issue. Where I live, loads of restaurants serve "unlabeled" halal meat with no issues. We don't have that many muslims.

I think this is perfectly fine, after all everyone else has had to put up with eating anglicized dishes...I think it's only fair.
