So what do we do. My understanding is that the Ukraine has a better army than Russia. We can't go into another war again to help but we probably would.

We do nothing.. We let Putin do whatever he likes. He will anyway. We have allowed our military to be downgraded to a point now that it is no longer a threat. We are spread too thin. Putin knows all of this. Russian supplies a great deal of gas and oil to Europe. You aren't going to get much in the way of support. Basically we are (pardon the expression) screwed.

The U.S. will never initiate any direct action against Russia. It would take much, much more than what has happened. Russian troops could occupy Kiev and there would be no U.S. military response. If the U.S. went to war against Russia it wouldn't be a fun war to watch on TV. Millions of Americans would die.
Maybe this will help.

Since when did the Russia military become more powerful than the American military?

If you took all US troops and sent them to Russia, you're right. The Russian military would fold like a bad hand. The issue is, we still have troops spread out in other conflicts all over the world. Our military funding has been drastically reduced. We are looking at cutting even more troops and we have a citizenry that is war weary. Wars are not always fought merely on battlefields. Most wars are won or lost at home.

You could cut our military spending in half and we would still have a more powerful military

A war with Russia would only cost $60 Billion and it would be paid for with Iraqi oil revenues. Remember that one war mongers?

Not sure he gets the purpose of sanctions.
