They had been in a standoff for hours and sunset was coming. He had a knife in his hand but was not in striking distance. Still, there had to be a better option than shooting him in the back as he was turning away.

Lethal force was used on James Boyd after hours of negotiation failed, after non-lethal force was ineffective, and after he made aggressive moves toward an officer with a knife. Justified shooting.
