“As of this day, I join Frederick Douglass as a Republican,” Guillory, 68, said as he wrapped up a speech blistering the Democratic Party. The move is a return to Republican Party registration for Guillory. Today the party of disappointment has moved away from the majority of Louisiana. They have moved away from traditional values of most Americans,” Guillory said in prepared remarks. “They have left us behind on crucial issues like abortion, vouchers, Second Amendment rights, union control of public jobs, school prayer, family issues.”

Guillory said the biggest disappointment for him has been the party’s role in the breakdown of families.
“Their support of dependency over self-reliance, of everything but traditional marriage, of abortion on demand, their policies have encouraged the high teen birth rates, high school drop out rates, high incarceration rates and very high unemployment rates,” Guillory said. “Our self-initiative and self-reliance are sacrificed in exchange for votes for the party of disappointment.”

“The list of disappointments is long,” Guillory said, noting “the lies and cover-up at Benghazi, the IRS harassing the tea party and wiretapping and spying on reporters.”

Welcome, Senator Guillory!

Great news, may it foretell a new age for the vast majority of African Americans, who automatically vote Democrat to the tune of 95%.

Good riddance.

We DO NOT need bible-banging loons and religious/socially conservative authoritarians in the Democratic Party. Especially from the loony Bible Belt southern states (who, ironically enough, are welfare leeches off the liberal blue states).

Why do conservatives believe there is some inherent controversy in a person changing political affiliation? people do it every day.

It's always newsworthy when an African American politician throws off the shackles of liberalism to embrace the American dream, individualism, and personal responsibility.

I agree with his reasoning but he seems very shifty.

This is also how you get a Progressive Republican party.
The two parties become the same, thing.

I think it's more a function of the fact that moderates no longer have a place in today's extremist Democrat Party. Look what happened to Bob Casey and Joe Lieberman. Either you tow the far left extremist line or you're branded a tea party racist by the leftist goons. Happens daily on this forum too.

Good. It's a positive start. People who smell trouble within their party of choice need to change their ways. We need more conservatives to stand up against leftist, Marxist extremism.

If he really stood for those things he would've joined the Libertarian Party, not the big-government GOP.
