Strange thing is that Indians, Pakistanis, and Bangladeshis are basically the same people ethnically. Why don't they have nearly the same scores/success?
Because they are different populations. Many Indians are actually East African Asians, who were displaced, but were very educated and successful business people. That pulls up the Indian average. Then there has been significant immigration by Indian doctors and engineers. Also Indian females are much more able to acquire and education and establish careers. India is a more "modern: country than is either Pakistan or Bangladesh.
Pakistani, and even more so Bangladeshi immigrants in the UK represent the more conservative, rural and less educated parts of that population, when compared to those from India.
So there is some apples and oranges going on here.
The same goes for Africans and Caribbean British blacks. Most of the latter came from a more working class background, and face intense racism as they attempted to establish themselves in the 50s and 60s. Their kids suffering immensely.
Many Africans come from more educated backgrounds, and were more likely to have entered the UK in the more enlightened post 1990 era, so have been less hobbled by racism.
What is noteworthy is how poorly White/Caribbean black mixtures are doing, when one considers that they are raised heavily by white English mothers, who ought to be able to integrate them properly into British life. Apparently not.
This is why I always roll my eyes whenever someone makes the claim that genetics determine intelligence. Just about all of my aunts and uncles grew up in villages in India; and as far as book smarts go, they are collectively dumber than a pile of bricks(I love them to death, but it's the damn truth). However, I would consider all of my cousins to be either extremely intelligent or above average at the very least(they are all financially successful, if having a upper-middle class or better lifestyle/income is the gauge of financial success). A change in environment and quality of education combined with the already stable, caring family life and pursuit of knowledge was all that was required.
I thought ethnicity meant culture, primarily, though it also implies a shared ancestry.
At any rate, although there is some crossover, genetically, in the populations of Pakistan, India, and Bangladesh, there are distinct genetic variations within those countries much less across them.
If you want to make that much of deal of it, there is as probably as much genetic crossover and "distinctiveness" between British Scots and British English as there is between Indians, Pakistanis, and Bangladeshis. I don't see you harping about those differences.
Like most of you said: "culture" which trumps skin color unless there are full on "Jim Crow" and "Apartheid" laws in place and even those laws many times can be ducked by people who take care of business.

Yet no one talks about the difference in smarts/genetics between an Albanian and a Norwegian...and those two nations are NOTHING alike in terms of culture, wealth and educational attainment. Why is Norway wealthy and Albania poor as all hell.
But since they're both white nations, no one asks that question.
