I have never felt the need to have one of these flags, but I do think it is his right to have it on his truck. The ACLU is supporting him. Although I think this kid should sue the school and win, I don't see that happening in a country where students don't even have the right to wear an American flag on their clothing.
I think people who fly the Confederate flag are racists plain and simple. And, yes, people will rail on and on about how it represents states' rights. I think it's just an excuse.
With that being said, people have every right to be racist. I wish this teen success in his suit. (I abhor racism.)
The confederate flag is a symbolism of southern pride....but pride for what...racism?
I don't think the confederate flag just represents racism. I think people today have difficulty comprehending the idea of individual state pride and state nationality that existed at the time of the civil war. Robert E. Lee was actually against racism but he fought for the confederacy. I don't think someone that smart would have fought for so hard if the only thing at steak was something he didn't even believe in.

It is a flag of identity, it is still a flag that best represents the South. Unfortunately for many it has been tied to racism due to it being the symbol for the confederates and their fight to keep slaves.
For me, I don't see the flag to be any different than the Cascadia flag with is the flag for the Northwest secessionist movement.
Why does a teenager in New Jersey have any reason to identify with the Confederate states? Or is he trying to portray that "cool redneck" vibe?
According to the article, his family and relatives are from the South.
